Intermediate Preferences and Behavioral Conformity in Large Games ∗

چکیده

Motivated by Wooders, Cartwright, and Selten (2006), we consider games with a continuum of players and intermediate preferences. We show that any such game has a Nash equilibrium that induces a partition of the set of attributes into a bounded number of convex sets with the following property: all players with an attribute in the interior of the same element of the partition play the same action. We then use this result to show that all sufficiently large, equicontinuous games with intermediate preferences have an approximate equilibrium with the same property. Our result on behavior conformity for large finite game generalizes Theorem 3 of Wooders, Cartwright, and Selten (2006) by allowing both a wider class of preferences and a more general attribute space. Polarization and Segregation through Conformity Pressure and Voluntary Migration: Simulation Analysis of Co-Evolutionary Dynamics

While conformity pressures people to assimilate in a community, an individual occasionally migrates among communities when the individual feels discomfort. These two factors cause segregation and cultural diversity within communities in the society. By embedding a migration dynamic into Kuran and Sandholm’s model (2008) of preference evolution, we build an agent-based model to see how the varia...

Behavioral conformity in games with many players

In the literature of psychology and economics it is frequently observed that individuals tend to conform in their behavior to the behavior of similar individuals. A fundamental question is whether the outcome of such behavior can be consistent with self-interest. We propose that this consistency requires the existence of a Nash or approximate Nash equilibrium that induces a partition of the pla...

Presenting a Model for Female Customers Behavioral Preferences in selecting Banks based on Grounded Theory Method and Structural Equation Modeling (Case Study: Iran’s Banking Industry)

The customers ’preference is derived from reflection on a product or special commercial brand, and factors such as positive appraisal of a brand performance and holding advantages and being unique, establishes the preference. This study aimed to develop a model of female customers' preferences in selecting banks and to train senior managers and banking staff. It had an applied objective, adopte...

A review on symmetric games: theory, comparison and applications

Game theory models decision makers' behaviors in strategic situations. Since the structures of games are different, behavior and preferences of the players are different in various types of game. This paper reviews various situations of games. Here, characteristics of some common games are discussed and compared. Specifically, we focus on a group of games called symmetric games including Prison...

Investigating the Use of Games and Flash Cards in Teaching Spatial and Temporal Prepositions to Iranian Pre-Intermediate EFL Learners

One of the most problematic areas for teachers and learners in English classrooms is prepositions. Two types of prepositions in English are spatial (space) and temporal (time) prepositions. Prepositions are words linking two entities and thereby specifying the relation of the two. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the role of games and flash cards in learning place and time prep...
